“As a woman living in Afghanistan, I need to learn self-empowerment to help transform the current reality for my mother, sisters, and other women. This course offers me a crucial opportunity to gain knowledge. Freedom feels like an unattainable dream, but I believe in working towards it. I want to acquire all the tools this course offers to empower myself, and I will pass on everything I learn to others.” -F.B., age 25, Kabul, Afghanistan
In a country where education is banned, self-expression is forbidden, self-empowerment is discouraged, and feminism is illegal, our course offers a lifeline. Students risk their lives to attend our underground online sessions, which meet three times a week. This reflects just how crucial and transformative this education is for them.
They seek to learn about their rights, to express themselves freely, and to have their existence acknowledged. They are in urgent need of external support. Our course provides a comprehensive exploration of mental health practices, aiming to build self-compassion, self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-care. Each trimester features a diverse range of holistic topics, including creative writing, discourse, guest speakers, health and nutrition, mindfulness and women's studies.

Our course extends across Afghanistan, reaching students aged 15-40 and offering them a vital connection to their own sense of humanity and relevance. Many have expressed that, since the U.S. withdrawal and the Taliban’s rise to power, this program has been a crucial lifeline, making them feel truly seen and heard for the first time in years.
Offered free of charge through Cafe de la Culture, our programs produce tangible improvements in knowledge of women’s studies, self-expression, self-compassion, confidence, and optimism.
“This self-empowerment journey has been nothing short of transformative. Before this class, I was engulfed with self-doubt and unease, feeling my worth was nonexistent. Through meditation and soothing guidance, I’ve found a profound inner peace and contentment. Now, I stand with confidence, deeply appreciative of the person I’ve become. This course has been a guiding light, giving me growing strength each day. Despite the challenges that surround me, I find myself emboldened, ready to face whatever lies ahead. Words cannot express the depth of gratitude I hold for this life-altering opportunity." -S.H., age 40
