Self-Empowerment Courses for Women in Afghanistan

By Café de la Culture

Since the Taliban took control in 2021, women in Afghanistan have faced gender apartheid. They are prisoners of war in their own homes, banned from school, work and all social life. Female artistic expression has been outlawed. Educated women are now confined to only domestic duties, forced marriages, and child-bearing.

Women must wear a full burka and be accompanied by a male guardian to leave their homes. Discussions about emotions, health, and sexuality are forbidden, and mental health support is inaccessible.

Many women are grappling with poverty and experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Voices Unveiled

This is an opportunity to sponsor a student in Afghanistan, age 15-40, through a college-level course in Self-Empowerment and Feminism for a full 3 month trimester.

The students must keep their identities hidden for their own safety. The class meets online for two hours, three times per week. These young women are risking their lives to pursue education and self-expression in a country where both are outlawed.

They desperately need support from the outside.

Sponsors who wish to give more can also help their student(s) with emergency funds that will ensure their safety under severe hardship while enrolled in the course.
